"Alcohol Detection and Engine Immobilization System for Drunk Driving Prevention”"

Drunk driving remains a major cause of road accidents globally, resulting in significant loss of life and property. This project proposes a microcontroller-based solution to prevent such incidents by integrating alcohol detection with vehicle control. The system employs an MQ-3 gas sensor to monitor alcohol concentration in the driver's breath. Sensor data is interpreted by an Arduino Uno, which functions as the control unit.

When the sensor detects alcohol levels above a defined threshold, the Arduino initiates a safety protocol: it disables the engine using an L298N motor driver, activates an audible buzzer to alert surrounding individuals, and displays a clear warning message “Engine Locked | Alcohol Detected” on a 16x2 I2C LCD. The system effectively prevents vehicle operation under the influence of alcohol, promoting safer roads through embedded intelligence.

Designed to be compact, cost-effective, and easy to integrate with existing automotive systems, this solution is especially suitable for commercial and personal vehicles, driving schools, and public transport. It contributes significantly to the automation of safety enforcement and could serve as a foundation for advanced driver-monitoring systems.
